In both of the villages I've visited so far, their were lots of animals (besides the goats and cows from Heifer). Every house has dogs, cats, pigs, chickens and roosters. The cats and dogs always look really skinny, and people here definitely see them as animals, not pets. On the other hand, that pig looks like it's headed for the table pretty soon...
