Ya, those chickens are tied to the tree

In the village we stayed in, there's a real problem with animal theft. People sneak around at night and steal chickens, goats and cows. Since the community is really poor, there is no police force. The police in the nearest town don't venture out this far. A lot of families, including the one we stayed with, tie their chickens and roosters into trees at night. It was pretty surprising on the first night when the dad whipped out a ladder, grabbed a rooster by the legs and climbed up into a mango tree.
