Yesterday I walked 2.5 km outside of Copan to Macaw Mountain Bird Preserve. It's a protected forest full of rescued birds who used to be pets. Toucans, macaws, parakeets, owls, hawks. The preserve is next to a coffee plantation and there are a bunch of coffee plants growing along the paths in the preserve. There's also a cafe where you can watch them roast and grind the coffee beans (and, of course, order some coffee).
The birds were really friendly. Most live in cages interspersed throughout the preserve. But there's an interactive area where some are let out to hang out with visitors. Three macaws sat on my arms at the same time (surprisingly heavy). And a parakeet landed on my head.
