The doctor is in

The clinic had 4 exam stations, each with a few future doctors and nurses. And each group of students had at least one person who could speak decent Spanish. I was a translator. Most people complained of headaches, colds, back and foot pain and parasites. We had a limited supply of meds that we prescribed from our make-shift pharmacy. A few people were seriously ill. All we could do was refer them to the hospital in La Esperanza and stress how important it was that they go. Most won't. It's too expensive and they can't get there. A little hard to see.

After the exam, each family got a goody bag. Vitamins, toothpaste, toothbrushes, parasite medication and soap. Then they moved next door to the pharmacy to get their prescriptions filled.
